Regionalism

Regionalism is a term used to describe American artists active during the 1930s and 1940s whose work focuses on genre scenes—images that celebrate people engaged in the activities of everyday life.

During this period, Missouri artists were among the finest working in this style. Notable figures include Thomas Hart Benton, Joseph Vorst, Joe Jones, Joseph Meert, and Oscar Thalinger.
