Edward Eugene Boccia (1921–2012) was an American painter, educator, and writer known for his vibrant figurative work and ambitious multi-panel compositions. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he studied at the Art Students League in New York and later earned degrees from Columbia University. Boccia served in the U.S. Army during World War II, an experience that informed the depth and spiritual intensity often present in his later work.
Working in a highly personal expressionist style, Boccia became widely recognized for his use of triptychs and polyptychs and for themes drawn from Catholicism, mysticism, and human experience. In 1951, he joined the faculty of Washington University in St. Louis, where he later became Professor Emeritus and served as Assistant Dean of the School of Art. His career included major exhibitions, international study in Italy, significant public commissions, and numerous honors, including recognition by the Italian government.
